Car dealerships close car parks in Lagos State – The Sun Nigeria

The Lagos State Motor Dealers Association has concluded the closure of all car parks in Lagos State due to the controversial Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) assessment for used cars imported into the country.

The association said in a statement issued by its secretary general, Olanira Tia, said members have decided to close all its car parks in Lagos State in solidarity with the ongoing action of the Nigerian Association of freight forwarders.

The statement reads in part: “At the General Assembly held on February 24, 2022, the Association resolved that all members should close their parking lots (automotive sales showrooms) on Friday, February 25, 2022 from morning until noon, in solidarity with the ongoing strike action launched by the Nigerian Association of Freight Forwarders (Clearing Agents) against the steep rise in the cost of clearing a car through the country’s ports.

“Car dealers need to understand that these bodies are fighting our course because the higher the cost of clearing a car, the more unaffordable it becomes.”

According to the statement, it has also been decided that any car dealerships who do not comply with this decision will have their showroom chained (closed) by our task force until Monday, February 28, 2022 as the only penalty for disobedience.
