Luke Rockhold blasts UFC bonus structure: ‘Company valuation is going up f*****g billions and we’re still stuck on $50,000 bonus checks?’

Luke Rockhold is not a fan of the UFC bonus structure.

Currently, the UFC is giving out an average of four $50,000 bonuses per event, two for performance of the night and two fighters each receiving $50,000 for fight of the night. Sometimes the promotion decides to hand out more bonuses, but for Rockhold, he thinks the amount the UFC is paying is a joke, because the bonuses have actually gone down in money in previous years.

“F*****g $50,000 bonus for two decades. Like, what the fuck? Rockhold told MMA Fighting. “The company’s valuation is going up by f*****g billions of dollars and we’re still stuck on $50,000 bonus checks? What the fuck? People have to wake up.”

Luke Rockhold thinks each bonus should be around $200,000 given that the promotion offered bonuses of $100,000. He knows the UFC has only gone up in value, so bonuses should reflect that.

“Remember when they were doing $100,000 bonuses when Jake Shields fought Georges St-Pierre? Now we’re still stuck on $50,000 bonuses,” Rockhold said. “I mean, how many billions have we increased in value since that fight – and we keep going back and they’re still fucking us on the salary. People have to be quiet, ‘Oh, $50,000 bonus!’ It becomes a thing. Let’s take $200,000-$200B, holy shit. That’s what you want to hear. The company needs a bit of a rework.

Although Rockhold thinks the bonuses should be $200,000, he says that won’t happen until more fighters talk about it. Still, he thinks UFC fighters are too scared to talk, so bonuses will remain at $50,000 for the foreseeable future.

“It should grow gradually,” Rockhold said. “The company, everything must grow, we must grow together. This is how a healthy business works. When you build an evil business, it only takes long enough for the f*****g egg to crack and enough people to grow an f*****g sack. Too bad there aren’t enough of us to have a bag.

As for Rockhold, he is expected to return to the Octagon next Saturday at UFC 278 against Paulo Costa.
